Growing up my family did not own any dogs so I have very little knowledge or experience with dogs. My husband and I knew that at some point we wanted to make a dog part of our family but with two young children we knew we were not ready so we'd often visit the Animal Humane Society and dog sit for family and friends. In 2014, we felt that we may be ready but wanted to know the specifics of owning a dog (ie., the expenses, vet visits, daily routines, behaviors, stressors, etc). We really wanted the specifics so that if we were to bring a dog home we would be ready to keep it forever. We asked many questions and the answers we received varied from it being easy to hard and from expensive to not expensive. One day I overheard the moms in my daughter's preschool class talking about Coco's Heart Dog Rescue. I came home that night and researched Coco's Heart Dog Rescue which led me to reading about "fostering". Right away I knew this was what we were looking for. My husband agreed and we brought home our first foster a week later. We were fostering failing on her, but her family beat us in applying. It was very hard to let her go, but we knew her family would love her so much! We pushed through the heartache and brought home another foster dog. About 4 months later, our friends informed us they were no longer able to keep their dog. We knew we weren't going to stop having dogs around, so we adopted their dog. Alala has helped us welcome many dogs and puppies over the past 2 years and our daughters have been our biggest helpers. We are no dog experts but we have learned so much. We very blessed to be apart of Coco's Heart Dog Rescue.
Earlier this year I took on the role as "Showcase Coordinator". Each week Angel's Pet World and Pet Evolution showcases some of our adoptable dogs and I ensure foster dogs attend weekly. I also help coordinate foster dogs for the birthday parties that are hosted at Angel's Pet World. I volunteer at various events such as the yearly 5K fundraiser and provide transport for our incoming dogs.
